Imphal, August 23 2015: Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has made it clear that the next round of talks with the Government is being delayed by the Committee as it needs to ponder seriously on the proposed Bill meant for protection of the indigenous people.

Participating in a huge public meeting on the current ILPS movement at Lamlong Keithel in Khurai in Imphal East on Sunday, JCILPS Convenor in-charge Khomdram Ratan said he felt the anxiety of the public over the delay in the next round of talks between the Joint Committee and the State Government.

He stated that the Joint Committee cannot meet the Government representatives in a hasty manner because it will have to prepare the ground works before reaching a conclusion on the proposed Bill on Inner Line Permit System or a similar legislation to safeguard the indigenous people.

At the meet organised by the Coordinating Committee of ILPS, Khurai, Ratan also expressed apprehension on the possibility of a positive result after the talks.

He insisted that there will be talks only when a firm decision is taken to ensure positive results and said that continuing the public movement is still crucial to the demand for ILPS.

There is no need for holding frequent talks with the Government if there is no positive outcome, Ratan added.

The Joint Committee leader appealed to the public not to step back from the ILPS agitation and that the demand must be pursued by everyone irrespective of social group or community.

Ratan reiterated that the ILPS demanded by the public is meant for all the communities in the State.

The meet decided to carry on the ILPS stir and to keep the media, medical and religious activities out of the purview of the of the strikes.

ZUCAMV demands ILPS .

Zeliangrong United Clubs' Association, Manipur Valley on Sunday appealed Manipur Government to fulfill the demand for the implementation of ILPS in Manipur.

A press note released by the Association said, "Zeliangrong people of Manipur valley have been extending every support to the movement of JCILPS demanding implementation of ILPS in the state in order to save the indigenous people from being relegated to the status of a minority group in our own state" .

While adding that ZUCAMV is of the firm belief that implementation of ILPS in the state is in the interest of the indigenous people of the State both in the hills and valley, the statement also shared the grief of the bereaved family of late Sapam Robinhood and all the volunteers who had sustained injuries and faced atrocities at the hands of security forces during the ongoing protest of ILPS.
