Imphal, August 23 2015:
Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) has expressed dismay with the recent decision of the Directorate of Health Services to withdraw routine medical check-up and ambulance service to the hunger strikers.
In a statement, MCPCR Member K Maharabi pointed out that an "unstable situation" has been created in the State where young children/juveniles are participating in the ongoing mass hunger strikes demanding the implementation of Inner Line Permit System (ILPS).
Maharabi appealed the responsible authority to resume medical check-ups for the juveniles and those who had been picked.
The responsible stake holders also should ensure safety, security and child friendly measures in dealing with the juvenile protesters, he said.
He has also expressed disappointment with the way how some of the juvenile hunger strikers were being treated while they were admitted to RIMS hospital.
He appealed the police to adhere to "Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection Children) rules, 2007" while dealing with the students.
The Commission further urged the responsible authorities to provide adequate security arrangements to the medical teams.
MCPCR also appealed child rights, human rights activists and State SCPU/DCPU staff to go the spots along with the medical teams where juvenile hunger strikers are being picked up.
