Rainstorm wreaks havoc

A strong rainstorm which swept across the State last night and this afternoon left trails of destruction in different parts of the State.
The windstorm razed to the ground numerous structures including dwelling houses and standing crops.
One Kangujam Jamini (60) of Kakwa Lilando Lampak got her hand fractured when a vehicle waiting shed under which she was taking shelter from the rainstorm collapsed under the impact of the storm at Singjamei Wangma Pebiya Pandit Leikai.
She also sustained injuries on the face and other parts of the body.
Altogether two vehicle waiting sheds, one meira paibi shed, 20 dwelling houses and a number of outhouses were ravaged by the rainstorm.
One green house of A Kishore where different crops are being cultivated under the Horticulture Department's Horticulture Mission in North East States 2013 was also damaged.

Similar scenes of destruction were seen at Keibi Mayai Leikai under Khundrakpam Assembly Constituency.
Altogether 15 dwelling houses, outhouses and kitchens of the locality were ravaged by rainstorms associated with hailstones.
The trail of destruction was also seen at Irilbung Bamon Kampu, Khongman Zone II and Thongju areas of Imphal East district.
The extent of damage caused by the rainstorm was assessed by Uchekon Nongpok Gram Panchayat Pradhan Anita Naoroibam.
She also appealed to the State Government to take up relief measures for people affected by the rainstorm.
Portions of dwelling houses blown apart by the rainstorm were seen entangled in bamboo groves at Ucheckon as well as at other places.
