Imphal, April 05 2015 :
National Identity Protection Committee (NIPCO) has urged the Governor not to give his consent to the Manipur Regulation of Visitors, Tenants and Migrant Workers Bill, 2015, which was passed by the State Legislative Assembly recently.
In a statement, NIPCO said that the civil society body would continue to take part in the pro-ILPS movements spearheaded by JCILPS.
Apart from JCILPS's five-point agenda, the Government had taken suggestions and opinions from legal experts and academicians as well on the issue.
However, sidelining all the points suggested by these experts, the Government introduced and subsequently passed a Bill, which does not have any teeth to protect the indigenous people of the State.
The statement questioned the Chief Minister why the Government formed an all political parties committee if they had to prepare a Bill at their fancy and whim.
