Imphal, August 10, 2013:
The Co-ordination Committee (CorCom) of six UG groups in Manipur, Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council; Kamatapur Liberation Organisation; National Democratic Front of Bodoland, National Liberation Front of Twipra and United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) have jointly announced boycott of India's Independence Day celebration and called a general strike on August 15. Announcing this, a joint statement of these UG groups said, "As the Indian Independence Day approaches, we would like to remind that the peoples of the Western Southeast Asia cannot tolerate national humiliation and insult as a result of promoting jubilation by the enemy of our land.
The Indian independence from the British rule in 1947 was merely a transfer of colonial power into the hands of the Indian rulers who are connected to and work in collusion with the oppressive feudal lords, princes and global finance institutions.
The subjugated and oppressed people of the Region cannot have fraternal relation with the exploitative India colonialist." The joint statement went on to say, "This celebration by the Indian State with pomp at a huge cost id going to be repeated again in our region like previous years to create an illusion that the region is an integral part of the Indian Republic, in an attempt to gloss over the colonial rule, which in fact prevails today.
To astute observers such a state of affairs would be abundantly clear from the mechanics of the India rule.
To prevent disruption in displaying this grand show case, the occupation forces are being ordered to intensify flag marches, wide spread stop and searches to prevent activists taking retaliatory actions and people expressing dissent democratically which is their human rights." "The so-called representatives in the Legislative Assemblies and bureaucrats of the establishment are simply puppets of the Indian colonial scheme.
Crude selfishness makes them loyal to their masters.
Although they are born as citizen of our nations, they have become traitors and are preparing themselves to repeat the crime of hoisting Indian tricolor, airing Indian National anthem, deploying massive security shields to guard the rituals and misguiding many into observing it.
These anti-national criminals constitute a mall chunk of the powerful internal enemy who violates international norms and the national expectations held dear by the freedom loving citizens of our respective nations," the joint statement said.
Furthermore, the joint statement pointed out, ' It is not only the people of the WESEA region alone, the oppressive Indian rulers are ruthlessly suppressing and exploiting the majority of the Indian population comprising the working people, peasants and Adivasis.
Majority of the Indian people are denied freedom, equality, peace, democracy and development.
In this scenario, promotion of the official independence ritual in our region is a mockery to the oppressed Indians and the democratic forces that are fighting for national and social liberation in their habitats.
Therefore, as in the previous years, the abovementioned organizations are jointly calling to boycott India's Independence Day in the region on 15 August, 2013; and as a mark of solidarity against Indian colonial occupation and military repression, a general strike will be observed effective from 1 am to 5.50 pm in the entire region of the Western Southeast Asia.
During these hours, essential services, emergency measures, media and religious activities are exempted from the purview of the general strike".
