Imphal, August 01 2017:
The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has expressed strong reservation against leaving out DM College of Teachers' Education (DMCTE) from the Dhanamanjuri University Bill 2017 tabled by Education Minister Th Radheshyam in the State Assembly yesterday .
The State Government has been working together to set up a new University by clustering together five colleges viz; DM College of Arts, DM College of Science, DM College of Commerce, GP Women's College and LMS Law College .
Speaking to media persons at their Sagolband office today, DESAM secretary general N Edison lamented that DMCTE has been left out of DMU Bill .
DMCTE became a separate college from 1972 before which it remained just as a department .
Out of the many educational institutes which share common campus, it is only DMCTE and Hindi Teachers Training Institute (HTTI) which have been left out of the Bill's purview.
It is also a matter of serious concern that the Degrees/courses which would be offered by DMU do not include Bachelor of Education and Master of Education, Edison said .
He then urged the Government to bring DMCTE under DMU Bill before it is converted into an Act.
He further appealed to all the Members of the House to take up the matter during the ongoing Assembly session .
DESAM would submit a memorandum on the matter to the Government soon, he added.
