Troops of 11 Assam Rifles Moreh and a team of Moreh police led by SDPO Lawrence rushed to Moreh Muslim Nagar Ward number 5 near border pillar 79 where an item suspected to be a bomb, with wires protruding , was spotted by locals on the Indian side of the border line at around 9 am today .
According to a source, a combined security team had conducted a search and frisking operation at the said area yesterday acting on specific information about the presence of bomb in the area .
The bomb was found by locals today who alerted the authorities .
The 11 AR used a sniffer dog to identify the content of the suspicious item and it was found to be a claymore bomb .
Later, a team of Assam Rifles, IGAR (South), arrived from Imphal and safley detonated the bomb at around 6.10 pm .
The claymore bomb weighed around 500 grams, it added.
