Ukhrul, August 01 2017:
A joint team of Committee for Scarcity of Water in Ukhrul Town (CFSWUT) led by convener AS Vaomi and SO Ningchuimi, PHE Department, Ukhrul conducted physical inspection of the ongoing construction of the sites for new intake and settling water tanks at Shinguira river, Shirui village as the old ones were swept away in the recent Cyclone Mora .
During the inspection, SO Ningchuimi said that in view of the strong water current during each monsoon season, construction of these infrastructures can be taken up only as temporary measures .
The work of fixing water pipeline structure along the 2 kms stretch from the source to BRTF road is being taken up by a man power strength of about 16 labourers .
Another water source Kokti was restored and water supply resumed from June 17 but the continued landslides along the Shirui-Mapum road damaged and swept away the pipelines, thereby disrupting water supply to Ukhrul town despite the repeatedly efforts of PHED .
Meanwhile, CFSWUT convenor AS Vaomi appealed to the PHE Department to properly monitor the works so as to expedite the work progress, considering the acute water shortage in the district headquarters.
