In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister following today's rally, the JAC Against Killing of Thangkhanlun Taitom alleged that Thangkhanlun was killed on the night of July 27 by one militant group based in Churachandpur and under the Suspension of Operation with the Government and accordingly laid down three conditions to claim the body .
To nab the culprits involved in the torture and killing and initiate actions as per the rule of law; a monetary compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the family and to provide a suitable Government job to the eligible next of kin are the conditions laid down by the JAC which has maintained that the victim was tortured and killed in the custody of ultras .
It also reminded the Chief Minister that the victim's body is still lying at the district hospital mortuary, and maintained that public outburst and reaction against such gruesome killing is understandable as this is the first time that the aggrieved family with public support has come out with courage to file an FIR against the perpetrators rather than settle it along the customary fines and agreement .
The JAC while maintaining that it is resolute in its stand to go with the public until justice is delivered decided to go ahead with the 6 am to 6 pm shutdown on August 2.Only medical, water supply, electricity, fire service, airport pick and drop, religious services and pre-planned ceremonies are to be exempted from the shutdown purview, according to the JAC.
