Imphal, December 15 2012:
Seven Opposition political parties have exclaimed that the decision of State Government to hold State Assembly session for two days is not in the interest of general public, but rather in the interest of few elected representatives of the people.
The third session of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly has been summoned from December 19 to 20 .
Addressing media persons at Irabot Bhawan here today, Dr M Nara stated that in accordance to the general instruction of the Parliament, there should be at least 55 days of Assembly sitting in a year.
So, with all the issues prevailing in the state, the decision of the State Government to have the Assembly sitting for 2 days only is really unfortunate.
He demanded that the time for Assembly sitting should be extended to allow in-depth discussion on the prevailing issues.
M Tombi, representative of JD (U), who was also present during the press conference, maintained that the State has no fixed destination.
All the developmental works taken up by the present government remains uncompleted for the last many years.
As a consequence, the roads are dusty, parking areas for vehicles are chaotic and corruption deep-rooted.
All in all, the State has been reduced to a land with no leaders and owners.
Under such conditions, the decision of the State Government to hold the Assembly sitting for two days only is a clear case of violating the rights of the people.
Sarat Salam, representative of CPI (M) noted that the most important issues concerning the State today are the challenges posed to its unity and integrity with certain ethnic groups raising the demand for separate homeland.
All these issues should be discussed during the Assembly Session.
Considering the attitude of the State Government in summoning the Assembly session only for two days, it would not be wrong to say that there is a dictatorial form of government in the State, he alleged.
Veteran politician O Joy was also present during the press conference.
