Imphal, December 15 2012:
44 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector under IGAR(S) organized a workshop on stitching at Chassad and Kamjong villages of Kamjong Sub Division, Ukhrul District.
This effort by battalion was aimed at training residents of remote villages of this area to enable them to raise small scale industry and earn a decent livelihood.
Due to prolonged militancy in this hilly extreme border area, it has remained devoid of any self employment avenues like small scale industry.
This workshop was an effort to encourage self employment and a step towards women empowerment.
The workshop was inaugurated by President ARWWA, 44 Assam Rifles.
The workshop is being organized in two phases.
The first phase was conducted with effect from 03 December to 12 December 2012.The second phase is scheduled to commence in Jan 2013 .
The first phase of the workshop involved basic training starting with familiarisation with stitching machine since for many ladies this was the very first time.
Participants were also taught hemming, stitching handkerchiefs, jhabla, etc.
The initiative was given an overwhelming response by the families of the unit and locals with many ladies of Chassad, Kamjong and adjoining villages attending the workshop and enthusiastically participating during the conduct of workshop.
