21st Imphal Book fair begins

A ten-day long 21st Imphal Book Fair began today at Hatta Kangjeibung.
The Book Fair is being organised by State Central Library, Imphal in collaboration with Raja Ram Mohan Roy Foundation, Kolkata.
Padmashree RK Jhaljit Singh and K Sobita, Director of Art and Culture graced the inaugural function of the Book Fair as the chief guest and president respectively.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr Th Khomdon Singh, Librarian of Manipur University said that the Fair has been organised in order to cultivate and promote reading habit among the people of the State.
He also urged all concerned to recommend to the State Central Library on any book they found in the Fair to be important and buying individually would cause inconveniences to them.
Any such recommended books would be purchased by the Central Library.
13 publishing firms from Delhi, 8 from Guwahati, two from Kolkata and 20 local publishing firms have registered participation in the Book Fair.
Series of activities will also be held as part of the ten-day long Book Fair including a spot painting competition for students on December 16; short story reading on Dec 17; a symposium on 18; and Meet Film Artist on Dec 19 .
A symposium on Acts and Rules under Dept of Art and Culture would be held on Dec 20, Meet Shumang Leela Artists on Dec 21; a state level quiz on Manipur Sports and Culture; and Meet publishers, librarians and writers on Dec 23 are the highlights of the day-to-day activities during the Book Fair.
The Fair will be winded-up on Dec 24 .
Releasing of a souvenir and 13 books marked the first day of the Fair.
