, Oct 25: Assam Rifles troops reportedly apprehended at least four arms dealers in Churachandpur since Monday, and subsequently recovered several weapons from their possession .
Three individuals identified as Tunkhopau Tonsing, 37 s/o Tualgou Tonsing of New Lamka; Paubawi Paite, 27 s/o M Sanga Paite also a resident of New Lamka; and Lalboi Misao, 22 s/o Letmang Misao, of Saipum village near Khuga Dam were apprehended by a joint team of the AR troops and the local police on October 23 reportedly for trading in illegal arms.
One Sten gun along with a magazine, one Honda Activa and cash were recovered from their possession, according to the Assam Rifles .
Similarly, on October 24, another team arrested K Vanhlir, 35 s/o Joy Kumar, a resident of Saikot village, also for smuggling arms with one 9mm pistol recovered from his possession.
While the first three dealers revealed that they were involved in arms smuggling and weapons dealing since a long time, the latter confessed to being involved in supplying arms and ammunition to insurgents operating in Manipur, said the source .
The apprehended individuals along with recovered items was handed over to Churachandpur police for further investigation, it added.
