Sit-in demands 7th pay for pensioners

Imphal, October 25 2017:
A sit-in-protest was staged by Manipur State Pensioners' Union at Singjamei Chingamakhong today demanding implementation of 7th Pay Commission and increment in medical allowance for pensioners .
Speaking to newspersons, general secretary of the union, L Tomba said that there are 45, 560 pensioners in the State, who are getting a monthly medical allowance of Rs 300 only .
He reminded that 7th Pay Commission had already been implemented for pensioners of Central Government besides increasing their monthly medical allowance by a sum of Rs 1000 on November 14, 2014 .
He also reiterated that the union had demanded the previous Government to hike the monthly medical allowance to Rs 500 from Rs 300 but to no avail .
Regretting that the demand was also placed before the Chief Minister during Meeyamgi Numit but no response has been provided till date, he urged the Government to fulfil the demand at the earliest .
He informed that to press the demand sit-in-protests will also be staged in Kakching tomorrow to be followed by Bishnupur on October 29, Imphal East on October 30 and in Imphal West on October 31 .
The union will hold a meeting on October 31 to discuss future course of action to be taken up to meet the long standing demand, he added.
