23881 students get benefit from mid day meal in Tamenglong

About 21413 students of Primary section I- V and 2468 students of upper primary section VI- VIII of the district has been covered under mid day meal scheme for the year 2010 to 2011, said Champoudai Dangmei, AI Tamenglong during technical session in the first day of the Barat Nirman Campaign at Tamenglong.
He said that at present the rice is allotted 100 gm per day per child for primary section and 150 gm per day for the upper primary section VI- VIII.
There is cash component of Rs 2.42 per students for primary and Rs 3.63 for upper primary students with effect from 2010 for preparation of curry and Rs 50 for fuel charge per working days for ever schools.
Tamenglong district has 275 primary schools and 43 upper primary schools.
Every has engaged one cook with payment of remuneration of Rs 75 per working day as to provide hot cooked meal at midday time.
He said the scheme covers for all government and aided schools of both Zonal Education Office and under Tamenglong Autonomous District Council immensely in contributing universalisation of elementary education.
Rice for the midday meal has been lifted from either Jiribam or Imphal FCI Godown and dropped to all the schools and centre for necessary distribution.
Kitchen shed for 241 schools has been constructed with aim of providing hot cooked meal to school going children, he said.
Further the AI said that 508.653 MT of rice has been lifted and the same has been utilized for primary schools and 80.319 MT of rice has been lifted and the same has been utilized for 2010 upto March 2011, he said.
As many as 220 days are approved by the MHRD for academic year 2010 to 2011 for implementation of midday meal scheme, he added.
