IBA's bird areas in State to be mapped

Imphal, December 01 2013 :
A team of scientists, ornithologists, researchers and conservationists from Bombay Natural Society (BNHS), Center for Conservation of Nature and Cultivation of Science (CCNCS), Manipur University in association with the Dept.
of Forest, Wild Life Wing, Govt.of Manipur would be going to visit and study the important bird areas (IBA's) of Manipur from the 9th December � 18 Dec, 2013 .
The team would conduct biodiversity study, particularly, tracking the trail of the last habitat of the endangered Manipur Bush-quail (Perdicula manipurensis) and species composition and diversity of avian fauna of these particular areas.
The areas to be covered by the team are Leimatak Riaprian Forest , Ango or Anko Hills (IBA criteria, A1, A2) in Ukhrul District; Bunning Wildlife Sanctuary (IBA criteria, A1, A2) in Tamenglong District; .
Dzuku Valley (IBA criteria, A1, A2) in Senapati District; Jiri-Makru WLS (IBA criteria, A1) in Imphal East & Tamenglong District; Kailam Wildlife Sanctuary, (IBA criteria, A1, A2) in Churachandpur District; Loktak Lake & Keibul Lamjao NP (IBA criteria, A1, A4iii) in Bishnupur & Imphal West Districts; Shiroy Community Forest, (IBA criteria, A1, A2) in Ukhrul District; Yangoupokpi Lokchao WLS (IBA criteria, A1) in Chandel District and Zeilad Lake Sanctuary (IBA criteria, A1) in Tamenglong District.
The team will also look for new possible IBA's from Manipur to be included as per Birdlife International's IBA consortium.
In this regard, Managing Trustee of CCNCS RK Birjit has appealed to the general public of Manipur and NGOs in particular not to create any disturbance to the research team but to extend every possible help.
