State athletics dominate Hornbill marathon

Manipur's long distance runners dominated the 3rd Hornbill Hall Marathon 2013 with the male athletes making a clean sweep of the top three positions and their women counterparts securing the first and third positions.
The half marathon organised by Nagaland Athletics Association is a part of the Hornbill Festival that began today at Kisama Heritage Village near Kohima.
In the men's section Th Sanjit Luwang covered the 21.97 kms (approx) distance in 1hr 10mins 32secs followed by L Ranjan in 1hr 11mins 4secs and N Samananda finishing third in 1hr 12mins 1sec.Among the women competitors, S Premila won the race in 1hr 28mins 2secs with Waheeda finishing third in 1hr 42mins 16secs.The top three finishers were awarded Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 each.
About 200 men and 50 women runners are said to have participated in the race and include athletes from Shillong-based Assam Regimental Centre, and States of Assam, Uttarakhand, Bihar and Jharkhand.
