Event on empowering women

Senapati, July 27 2016:
Hundreds of women including girl student from across Senapati and Sadar Hills participated in a mega event on empowering women at the Indoor Stadium, Senapati today.
The event was organized by the district administration, Senapati district under the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme on the theme, 'Within her is the power to create, nurture and transform', our correspondent reports.
Apart from district administrators including ADC executives, Deputy Commissioner, SP, SDOs and DLOs, the mega event was attended by civil bodies of Senapati and Sadar Hills including NPO, Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills, SDSA, KSO-SH, SDWA, Kuki Women Union.

In her keynote address, Jacintha Lazarus, Deputy Commissioner, Senapati said Beti Bachao Bei Padhao is a scheme aimed at encouraging female child birth and education of girls.
She also pointed out that women need empowerment not upliftment.
Jacintha opined that women in tribal areas are more respected as compared with other parts of the Nation.
While urging for inclusion of women in decision making, she said women can be a channel of change in the society.
After being under a patriarchal world for so long, women need a little help to raise their voices against oppression, female foeticide, rapes, dowry, gender inequality and more, she added.
"Women are human as men.
They deserve to enjoy the same rights, the same choices as men and if given a fair chance they have a lot to contribute to the society and the Nation", she added.
NPO president while thanking the district administration for organizing the event said that participating in such programmes helps one understand the importance of women in the society.
Advocate Kosia spoke on the Protection of Women From Domestic Violence Act.
She said, the Right to Life is the most important Fundamental rights of a citizen guaranteed by the Constitution of India.
Right to Life includes Right to Safety, Security, working in a conducive atmosphere, right against discrimination etc.
Every woman has the right to live with dignity, she added.
A debate on the topic 'Women as decision makers is the only way for empowerment', folk songs and dance, skit, karate and talent show marked the event.
