Imphal, July 27 2016:
Mapithel Dam Multipurpose Project Displaced Villages Committee has reiterated its stand to oppose the inauguration of Mapithel Dam Thoubal Multipurpose Project unless the pending compensation is paid.
Speaking to media persons, MDMPDVC president M Ngaranmi said that there are 455 households and 3 Churches in Chadong village.
The village has been submerged by last year's flood and the affected villagers were compelled to relocate in two separate locations.
Lamkhai Khunou was also partly submerged and the displaced villagers have shifted to safer areas between May and June this year.
The Rehabilitation and Resettlement Programmes for the submerged and displaced villagers have been partially implemented while the new R&R Programmes are yet to be completed, M Ngaranmi said.
Despite repeated appeals to disburse the pending compensation, the State Government has failed to consider the woes of the affected villagers, Ngaranmi said.
Unless the pending compensation is not disbursed, the Mapithel Dam Thoubal Multipurpose Project cannot be commissioned, Ngaranmi asserted.
