Compensation demanded

A relative of a mother-daughter duo from Phayeng village in Imphal West district, who were found dead at a nearby paddy field of the village four years ago, has demanded the Government to compensate the next of kin of the victims under the Central Scheme for Assistance to Civilian Victims of Terrorist, Communal, Naxal violence.
Talking to reporters at Manipur Press Club, a relative of the victims, Angom Iraijao said that the mother-daughter duo was found dead at a paddy field of Phayeng village after they were forcibly called out from their house by unknwon armed persons in January 2010 .
The duo was suspected to have been raped and murdered by the armed persons, he added.
Iraijao added that a few days after the incident, Chief Minister O Ibobi had told the State Legislative Assembly that the duo was killed by armed miscreants.
Although, the State Government had provided an ex-gratia of Rs one lakh to the next of kin of the victims, compensation amount under the Central Scheme for Assistance to Civilian Victims of Terrorist, Communal, Naxal violence is still pending, he added.
Although, the Central Government used to bear the whole compensation amount earlier, after January 25, 2010, the Centre asked the States to share 30 per cent of the said amount, he added.
Demanding the State Government to bring out a white paper on the scheme to make the general public aware, Iraijao urged the Government to compensate the next of kin of the mother and daughter duo under this scheme at the earliest.
