Public meeting held to fight against drugs

As part of its continuous efforts to root out the menace of drug abuse from the State, Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA), Bishnupur District Committee in association with Loktak Project Area Women Society (LPAWS) organised a public meeting to discuss about the ever-increasing cases of drug abuse and related crimes in the StateatNewCannan Village, Loktak Project, this evening.
CADA vice president, Ningthoujam Doren; LPAWS president, Athilue Maringmei and CADA Bishnupur District Committee president, Huiningsungbam (o) Basanti graced the event as the presidium members while LEIMAKOL secretary, Ac Nganthoi and CADA secretary general Dipanjit Ningthoujam spoke as the resource persons.
Speaking on the occasion, Ac Nganthoi said that alarming increase of drug abuse among the youth has caused many unwanted incidents in the society including snatching of gold earring from the children and violence against" women among others.
Saying that consumption of tobacco products too have increase manifold in both the hill and valley areas which can cause many incurable diseases, Nganthoi asserted that it is high time to jointly work with women society and meira paibis to save the youth from the grip of drugs.
Executive member of LPAWS, Gaisen stated that drug abuse by the youth is increasing at an alarming rate in Loktak Project area too.
Selling and abusing of drugs openly in the area has been reduced due to the continuous drive conducted by women societies in the area, she said and added that it is of utmost importance to root out such activity to nurture the young children in healthy environment.
