Shradha ceremony

United Committee Manipur (UCM) in association with Khwai Nungseng Sinthalup (KHNSI), Mani Goura Sangeet Academy and Ahalsing Leinaba Shanglen, Yairipok conducted the Shradha ceremony in honour of Naoroibam Sobita Devi, victim of the June 18, 2001 upheaval.
In the aftermath of the inclusion of the term 'ceasefire without territorial limits' in the peace pact between the Centre and NSCN (I-M) in June 2001, the State rose in protest and it was during one of these protests that Sobita was shot on the leg by the State security forces.
Sobita lost her right leg protesting against the ceasefire extension.
She was provided special care at the Ahalsing Leinaba Shanglen (old age home) under Nungseng Sintha Lup, Canchipur.
On March 28 this year, Sobita passed away from a personal ailment at the Home.
Attending member of civil organisations paid floral tributes at the portrait of the deceased.
The ceremony unfolded with the observation of various religious rituals.
