Imphal, April 01 2023:
Allegations have been raised that due payment for the construction of a Covid Care Centre at Loukoipat in Bishnupur district is not granted by some officials of Public Works Department (PWD) on the grounds that 10 percent of the payment is not provided to them.
Addressing media persons during a press meet held today, Nongmeikappam Gouro, sub-contractor who was given the responsibility of the construction of the said Covid Care Centre informed that as approved by State Cabinet, the construction was started in August 21, 2022 and was put into use after its inauguration on September 15 of the same year.
'However the bill amount of the construction of the Centre which is Rs 1, 85, 55, 950 has not been granted till date by some high officials of PWD on the grounds that 10 percent of the amount is not given to them', he alleged.
He denounced such irresponsible acts on the part of the Department officials since the Covid care centre was built amid the tough times of the pandemic in the interest of the public.
He expressed discontent that the PWD failed to disburse the funds granted by the Health Department and approved by the Finance Department for not giving their demanded share which is really unfortunate.
In view of the above, he urged the Chief Minister to probe the matter and make the process free from corruption and bribery.
Since the PWD failed to disburse the said funds, he appealed to the Chief Minister who is also in-charge of Finance to cancel the work order and provide the funds through the Engineering Cell of the Health Department within this ongoing month.
