PDS rice export concerns Moreh bodies

Several organisations belonging to different communities of Moreh have demanded to put an end to clandestine exporting and selling of PDS rice to neighbouring Myanmar.
A release jointly issued by presidents of Hill Tribal Council, Moreh, Meitei Council Moreh, Tamil Sangam Moreh, Manipur Muslim Council Moreh and Gorkha Samaj Sewa Samiti acknowledged that the monthly distribution of rice under National Food Security Act highly subsidised rate brought great relief to the poorer section of the society.
However, it has been three months since the distribution of the NFSA rice ceased in Moreh area, thus causing much difficulty to the poor beneficiary card holders, it said while stating that people as well as public leaders have started to raise posers over suspension of distribution of rice.
The release appealed to the authority concerned to sort out any discrepancy that might have arisen so that people avail what is entitled to them.
All the community leaders in Moreh will also keep strict vigil on the Public Distribution System, it said, while further appealing to all not to hoard PDS rice and to stop clandestine selling of PDS rice in Myanmar.
In another release, the aforementioned organisations expressed grave concerned over cessation of cross-border trade activities.
Despite constitutional bindings and international border norms, the government ought to consider relaxation for its local citizens by way of arrangement and extension of local adjustment for the sake of ensuring public welfare as the general populace of Moreh are mainly dally wage earners engaged as porters and smalltime business.
Assam Rifles in compliance with the state government's order is enforcing total restriction on movement of timbers, construction materials, etc., thus, rendering many people jobless.
While enquiring how long people have to survive without work, the all community leaders of Moreh exhorted the authority concerned for redressing their grievances at the earliest.
