Speaking at the programme as chief guest, health and family welfare minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh congratulated JNIMS doctors' team on successfully conducting 25 cases of kidney transplantation.

Stating that it is a boon for the state, he added that JNIMS, RIMS and SHIJA have been doing the kidney transplantations successfully in the state.

Recalling the first successful kidney transplantation at JNIMS, Dr S Ranjan stated that chief minister N Biren was elated over the successful renal transplantation in a state government institute at a minimal cost and with the commitment of the JNIMS team.

The CM is keen to ensure that people reap benefit of CMHT and PM-JAY as the government is committed with a sincere approach to the people, he said.

The minister also mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his 99th episode of 'Mann Ki Baat' had stressed the importance of, organ transplantation.

Dr Ranjan also affirmed to walk extra mile and extend all possible help, within the ambit of the law, to make kidney transplantation successful.

On increase in kidney diseases in the state, he called for carrying out research work on a serious note to find out the reason and causes.

The minister continued that there is need to co-ordinate with the major research centres to study minutely the reasons, Whether, it is due to high starch content in our food or less consumption of water, etc., should be investigated and awareness created on causes of kidney disease and for changing our food habits in view of rise in the number of kidney in the state, Dr Ranjan observed.

He also conveyed that the government has been able to provide healthcare facility at the periphery through the primary health sub-centres, etc.

Very soon district residency programme will be implemented in the state as per the National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines in which PG students will visit various districts, he informed.

The minister also said that the CM wants the commitment of the doctors, nurses and staff of JNIMS to provide quality healthcare facility to the people at large.

Regarding funding of JNIMS, he admitted need for increasing JNIMS' fund allocation.

However, as the state is facing fund crunch, he will put forward the issue to the notice of the CM, the minister while confiding that more funding allocation for JNIMS is in the pipeline.

Minister Ranjan further noted that the Union Ministry has been apprising the state to be always ready for any eventuality as there has been slight increase in Covid cases in the country.

He informed that the Ministry has advised carrying out mock drills for preparation and as a follow up to advisory, mock drills will be conducted on April 10 and 11.JNIMS director Prof L Deben Singh, medical superintendent Prof Kh Lokeshwar Singh, MOHAN Foundation managing trustee Dr Sunil Shroff, Shija Hospitals & Research Institute (SHRI) CMD Dr Palin Khundongbam, RIMS director Prof H Priyosakhi Devi, senior doctors, faculty members, nurses and patients attended the workshop.

During the event, an update on living kidney transplant programme was presented by JNIMS Department of Urology Prof K Sholay Meitei.

The team was awarded a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh by the CM for performing the transplantation successfully and the reward money is being utilised as a fund for organ donation only.

A booklet was also released by the dignitaries in connection with the workshop.
