CM urged to address plight of E-rickshaw workers

E-Rickshaw Workers' Union, Manipur (ERWUM) has urged chief minister N Biren to address the harassment meted out to E-rickshaw and E-vehicle service providers and workers by some people and associations by obstructing their routes, which made it impossible for them to provide their services.
In a release, ERWUM president E Nandakeshwor Meitei recounted that E-rickshaw service was launched by the CM under its 'Nungshirasi Mahousa (Pollution Free) initiative on June 19, 2022, but they continue to face harassment by diesel auto service providers.
Their vehicles are often confiscated, drivers assaulted and threatened.
E-rickshaw operators are finding it veiy difficult to continue their services in such situations.
They cannot even afford to pay the EMI of their vehicle loan, Nandakeshwor said.
ERWUM further reiterated that the CM must look into the matter and address the issues faced by E-rickshaw service providers.
