State judokas crowned Sangai Cup champs

Imphal, April 01 2023: Manipur were crowned overall team champions of the inaugural State Level North East Judo Championship IIS-Sangai Cup after scooping 77 medals in the two-day competition that wrapped up here on Saturday.

A whopping 32 gold medals formed the bulk of the state team's medal count which also included 26 silver and 19 bronze over the course of the championship.

The judokas who sparkled for Manipur with the yellow metal on the closing day were Babumacha, Maimu, Nishikanta, Aghasin, Simon, Wanglen, Abungcha, Sanatomba, Silky, Maloti, Haripriya, Athoibi, Monalisa, Rony, Linthoinganbi, Taibanganbi,-Sanjana and Yoihenba.

Arunachal Pradesh finished runners-up with 10 gold, three silver and seven bronze medals.

They added five gold medals on the last day courtesy of Tersu Tali, Pomen Teppa, Kabi Dayom, Tang Tada and Kentu Lap.

Mizoram completed the top three with a haul of one gold, three silver and nine bronze medals, followed by Assam (G-1, S-3, B-8), Meghalaya (G-1, S-1, B-11), Tripura (G-0, S-7, B-10) and Nagaland (G-0, S-1, B-0) .
