Awareness on WoD & Deforestation organised

In support of the War on Drugs and Deforestation Campaign initiated by CM N Biren, Peace and Development Co-ordinating.
Committee (PDCC) and Village Development Sporting Club (VDSC), Pukhao Laipham jointly organised a one-day awareness campaign programme on 'War on Drugs and Deforestation' at Pukhao Laipham community hall on Saturday.
The programme was attended by Conservator of Forests Central Circle, Manipur Rk Amarjit, Imphal East SP Ksh Shivakanta, Directorate of Environment and Climate Change joint director Dr Brajakumar, ICHAM advisor Nongthombam Rajendro alias Boi, PDCC president Konthoujam Joy and Village Development Sporting Club president Taorem Man-glemjao as presidium members.
In his speech, SP Shivakanta observed that there is almost no family in the state which has not been affected by the drug menace, which is spreading in the state at an alarming rate.
Thus, organising mass awareness programmes to inform the people of this danger, is the need of the hour, he said.
According to joint director Dr Brajakumar, the drug menace and deforestation are two important issues afflicting the state today.
In addition, forests are important for the survival of the environment and all the living beings including humans.
As such, people need to thoroughly understand the importance of conserving forests and take up necessary measures for the same, he asserted.
As part of the programme, a poster campaign to spread the messages on War on Drugs and Deforestation was launched.
Later, various resolutions were adopted, such as forming a Committee for Khundrakpam AC to support the drug ban and prohibition of any poppy plantation or deforestation activities in the constituency.
