Seven-storey government buildings allowed: CM

Construction of new government buildings for providing accommodation facilities to employees will be allowed up to seven storeys, stated chief minister N Biren Singh.
In a post uploaded on Facebook account, CM Biren said that construction of new government buildings up to seven storeys has been allowed to make the Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act effective and serve the purpose.
He said that government buildings in Langol area of Imphal West district will be allowed as specified with strict adherence to seismic zone safety procedures and law.
To withstand impact of earthquake, all the seven-storey buildings must ensure necessary materials, design and norms, said N Biren, who also holds the planning portfolio.
Government banned construction of buildings in Imphal Municipal Corporation jurisdiction beyond four storeys earlier but relaxed the same now to save paddy lands and wetlands of the state, Biren said, adding that the step has been taken as part of government's preparations to encourage agricultural sector.
He also appealed to the people to construct buildings with strict adherence to seismic zone safety procedures as the state falls under seismic zone-5 of the world.
