Imphal, September 22 2016:
The United Kuki Liberation Front(UKLF)has reiterated its stand to focus on Kuki re-unification to reunify the fragmented Kuki Nation on the occasion of its Reformation Day.
Stating that the UKLF has faith and hope that a day will come when a strong and unified Kuki Nation will stand together in unity, the outfit in a statement said that the
Reformation Day is observed every year as a day of prayer and to reform any wrong committed by any organisation.
The outfit recalled that it was on August 13, 2000 that the then president of UKLF, Thangkholun Haokip arbitrarily removed commander-in-chief of the outfit SS Haokip.
After this, Thangkholun fled and surrendered to the Kuki
National Army (KNA), leaving the organisation (UKLF) in tatters, said the statement and added that thereafter SS Haokip along with other leaders and stakeholders of the organisation resolved to reform the outfit and it was on September 22, 2000 that the UKLF, Govt of Khulmigam was reformed, added the outfit.
The outfit said that UKLF was founded in 1994 after the KNA violated traditions and seized all legal documents of the land from Kuki village chiefs in Chandel district to give the land to the Government of Manipur to be declared as Government Reserved Land for financial gains.
This would have resulted in the loss of land of the forefathers of the Kukis, it alleged.
Apart from this, the KNA continue to harass the people by imposing taxes such as house tax, paddy tax, emergency tax on the people and disrespect religious leaders, village chiefs, and the public, alleged UKLF.
Following the harassment by the KNA, a general meeting attended by village chiefs, social leaders and like minded people was convened and it was resolved to fight the excesses of the KNA.
Prominent individuals who attended the general meeting were Kampu Gangte of Moreh, Jamkholun Haokip, chief of Kovang, Ngamkholet Mate, chief of Sehlon and Tongkhothang Haokip, chief of Aihang village, added UKLF.
After minutely discussing the various issues, the meeting agreed to form a united front and liberate the region from the KNA and thus was bom the UKLF with the primary focus on protecting the land of the Kuki fore fathers and re-unifying the Kuki Nation, added the statement.
