Rally at Hiyanglam against assault

Local clubs and organisations in Hiyanglam Terapishak today took out a procession decrying the assault of a mentally unstable girl by her 55 year old neighbour, our correspondent reports.
Large number of students also took part in the rally that was jointly organised by Kanglei Yelhoumee Lup (KAKYEL), Young Defence Club (YDC), Kanglei Chaokhat Thoudang Lup (KACHATHON), Absolute Benefaction Club (ABC), Rape Victims Support Group, Women Against Crime, JAC Women Care and Guidance Centre, Khangabok.
The rally which began from Wabagai Tera Pishak culminated at Kakching police station.
Later, the protesters formed a team of representatives who met the Kakching Police OC, SDPO, Kakching and SDO, Kakching.
The team urged the officials to ensure that the unborn child is provided for and the perpetrator is punished according to law.
A public meeting was also held earlier at Hiyanglam Terapishak wherein the participants resolved that the accused should not be released on bail under any circumstances, DNA/Forensic tests related to rape cases should not be delayed and suitable punishment should be given to perpetrators of such crime.
It may be recalled a young mentally unstable girl was allegedly raped and impregnated by her 55 year old neighbour Huidrom Jilla.
The victim is now six months pregnant.
