Traffic Circus: Manipur Style : Incomplete road portions used as parking lots

Imphal, September 22 2016:
The expanded but not fully constructed portions of the 0.5 Km long road which connects New Checkon to Ayangpalli Porompat traffic crossing are being used as parking lots by residents, shop owners/salesmen and staff of financial institutes located along the road.
The Government expanded the road with the primary purpose of easing vehicular traffic at the cost of a substantial amount of money.
However, with rows of vehicles on both sides of the road, it is as good as before it was expanded.
Same is the case along RIMS road too.
All the expectations of easing movement of vehicles and people after expansion of the road have been belied by rows of vehicles parked along the road.
It remains a big question whether the authorities concerned are unaware of the inconveniences faced by public along RIMS road due to single and double parking.
The problem is really chaotic when the parked vehicles go in reverse gear to move out.
It was none other than the Chief Minister who stated that the RIMS road was expanded to facilitate unimpeded movement of people, particularly sick people.
Given this fact, it is questionable whether the Government authorities which allotted parking lots along RIMS Road overlooked the Chief Minister' s statement.
Likewise, the expanded portions of the road which connects New Checkon to Ayangpalli Porompat traffic crossing have been turned into parking lots even though the road construction work is yet to be completed.
Here one would like to ask whether the roads were expanded to ease movement of vehicles or whether the expanded roads were meant to serve as parking lots.
For Imphal East district, Porompat road is one key road.
There are many important Government offices at Porompat apart being the district headquarters.
There is also JNIMS and a big water supply plant.
It is for these reasons that the road which connects New Checkon to Ayangpalli Porompat traffic crossing was expanded.
