Villagers resolve to fend off disruptions

The village authorities of different villages located around Yairipok Chandrakhong village urged the people of different communities not to disrupt the construction of a bridge proposed to be built over Etok river at the village.
Speaking at a press conference held at Yairipok Chandrakhong community hall, Chandrakhong Village Development Committee president H Lalitkumar said that the bridge would serve as a lifeline for the villagers of Phanjakhong, Mayai-Keithel, Somrei, Soraland, Saram, Saram Patong and Tangkhul Khullen etc.
The bailey bridge which was there earlier had been swept away by flood water some time back, he said and added that as such, villagers especially school children have been facing inconvenience due to the absence of a bridge.
Stating that people of the area must welcome the Government's decision of constructing a new bridge at the same site, Lalitkumar urged the public to extend cooperation to authority concerned for the early completion of the bridge.
Taking part at the press conference, Ks Minthing of Tangkhul Khullen said that parents are facing lots of inconvenience in bringing their children to schools.
On the other hand, people are also facing the same inconvenience at the time of medical emergencies, he said.
Meanwhile, a joint meeting of village authority, local clubs and organisations representatives of different villages was held at Yairipok Chandrakhong community hall today.
It was resolved in the meeting that the village authorities would stand against all the disruptive activities which may affect construction of the bridge.
