Imphal, September 22 2016:
Police today foiled the attempt of a group of JCILPS Women Wing volunteers to storm Raj Bhavan.
In pursuance of the demand for implementation of ILPS in the State, the womenfolk took out a rally from Keishampat towards Raj Bhavan at around 3 pm.
The rally which briefly disrupted traffic movement was stopped by the police before the womenfolk could reach Raj Bhavan gate.
However, the women volunteers sat on the footpath near Raj Bhavan demanding a meeting with the Governor.
Although, police drove away the womenfolk towards Keishampat after a few minutes, four women leaders refused to leave the area.
They told the police that they would not return until they meet the Governor.
Later, the Governor's Secretary told the women leaders that it was not possible to seek an appointment as it was late.
Later, speaking to reporters, JCILPS Women Wing convenor Th Apabi expressed dissatisfaction on not being allowed to meet the Governor on the important issue of ILPS.
The Governor's office must understand that the State has been witnessing a mass movement on the issue, she said.
Apabi said that they would seek an appointment with the Governor to discuss the matter.
She said that people of Manipur would demonstrate their ability to the Government if an Assembly session to pass a new ILPS Bill is not convened within a few days time.
Tammi Chingmi Apunba Lap president Momon questioned how long the Government would remain evasive on the issue.
It is unfortunate for the people of both hill and valley that constant influx of non-locals to the State has become a serious threat to them, she said.
Late in the evening today, about 35 non-local people were rounded up by womenfolk at Sagolband Salam Leikai for not possessing valid identity documents.
