A fortnight long Barrier Free campaign organised by Handicapped Development (HD) Foundation was inaugurated today at Manipur Press Club.
Speaking as the chief guest of the inaugural function, Disability Commissioner L Ibomcha Singh stressed the need to develop the notion of oneness and to break all barriers.
He called upon all concerned to facilitate a free environment which allows people to move safely, independently and without restriction.
The programme was attended among others by Dr Ch Rupachandra Singh, Chairman, HD Foundation and Sapam Bheigya Singh, retd Jt Director, Art and Culture as the president and guest of honour respectively.
According to the organisers, the campaign has been organised every year since 2008 with the main objective of creating an environment that is accessible and serviceable to everyone in the society including people with disabilities.
Rehabilitation Psychologist L Dhaneshwor Singh spoke on the role of society to promote barrier free environment while vice-president of AMWJU Ratan Luwangcha spoke on the role of media to promote barrier free environment.
