River Lift Irrigations (RLIs) inaugurated

In an inaugural spree, Parliamentary Secretary (MI & IPR), K Meghachandra has inaugurated seven River Lift Irrigations (RLIs) and a pucca Dam constructed by Minor Irrigation Department under AIVP scheme at different places of the State today.
Two RLIs and a mini barrage type pucca Dam were inaugurated at Sanjenbam and Thounaojam in Nambol AC while an RLI each was inaugurated at Joto Mapa, Saiton Litanpokpi, Kumbi Tera Tompok Mapa and Ithai Athokpam under Kumbi AC.
Another RLI was inaugurated by the Parliamentary Secretary at Thanga Lawai in Thanga AC.
Speaking during the inaugural spree, Parliamentary Secretary, K Meghachandra said the department is all set to avail irrigation to farmers with the inauguration of 60 RLIs in the State.
Expressing hope that the setting up of RLIs in different parts of the State would ensure smooth functioning of irrigation system, Meghachandra said that proper irrigation system would result in sufficient food stuff production.
He urged the farmers to judiciously utilise projects and schemes implemented by the Govt while also exhorting the farmers to produce sufficient food stuff with assistance through such projects or schemes.
He said the dam inaugurated today would ensure uninterrupted water supply to agriculture land even in times of drought-like situation.
A body, Water Users' Association would be set up to look after the operation and maintenance of the Dam where a small amount would be collected as tax from farmers relying on the dam, he said.
The Parliamentary Secretary was accompanied by MLAs N Loken Singh, S Bira and T Mangibabu Singh apart from officials of the Minor Irrigation department.
