Govt presents Rs 2 lakh incentives to hockey champs

The Government today felicitated four hockey players of the State who were members of the Indian team which won the bronze medal in the Junior Women's World Hockey championship held in Germany recently by presenting them cash incentives of Rs two lakh each.
The cash incentives were distributed at a simple function held in the Chief Minister's office who is also in charge of the Sports Department.
Pukhrambam Sushila who led the Indian team as captain said that it was after 38 years the Indian team won a medal in the world championship.
She also sought attention of the Chief Minister for promotion of hockey in Manipur.
Hockey players who hail from Manipur but working outside the State have been regularly contributing money for purchasing hockey sticks and balls and they are given to the association.
The captain further sought attention of YAS Minister and Chief Minister O Ibobi to let young players practise on the astro-turf of Khuman Lampak Hockey stadium.

Ibobi stated that the Government was planning a grand reception function but it had to be organised hurriedly on a smaller scale for the players are leaving the State tomorrow itself.
There is no question of neglecting the players.
He further assured that necessary arrangements would be made to allow young players practise on the astro-turf.
The other three players who were felicitated with cash incentives were M Lily Chanu, N Sanarik Chanu and Th Pinky.
YAS Parliamentary Secretary M Prithiviraj, Sports Commissioner Dr RK Nimai and other officials were also present at the felicitation function.
Meanwhile, the Manipur Hockey has conveyed its gratitude to Chief Minister O Ibobi for awarding cash rewards of Rs two lakhs each to the four hockey players in recognition and appreciation of their performances.
