Imphal, August 12, 2013:
forty-eight-year-old man was killed today when the Tata Winger he was travelling in along with 15 other passengers met a tragic mishap at Torbung Bangla.
At least six other passengers suffered minor injuries.
Sources said that the Imphal bound Winger reportedly met the mishap at about 11.15am while trying to evade a passerby, a few meters away from the 116Bn BSF outpost.
The deceased, identified as Dongzangam Mate (48) S/o Jangkhopao Mate of Phaikong village, Chakpi-karong, Chandel District is said to be a serving Havildar attached to 7 MR. The winger, bearing registration number AS11AC- 4881 belongs to one Mangsei Mate and driven by Haopu of Zion Veng, Tuibuong.
Following the mishap, BSF personnel as well as the passerby swiftly acted to assist the victims.
Five out of the six injured received first-aid while Chochong (48) of Leisang village was admitted to the District Hospital here for treatment.
Our Jiri Correspondent adds: A fourteen years old student of RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya, Jiribam was found dead in a pond yesterday around 5pm. According to family source, Jaffer Ahmed (14) s/o Itonsana Hazir of Patchao, Chingdong Leikai, Jiribam went to herd their cow last evening.
The family members found him dead when they went to search for him after he did not return.
