Imphal, November 13 2014:
Tangkhul Katamnao Long Imphal (TKLI) today submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Okram Ibobi seeking his intervention in the long-pending issue of the contract basis teachers of Government schools in the hill districts.
The contract basis teachers were recruited in 2006 .
These contract teachers were appointed and utilized by the Directorate of Education (S) following an MoU signed between the State Government and ATSUM on March 31, 2006, the memorandum said.
It added that the teachers have been rendering selfless service though they are being underpaid by the Government.
Despite the fact that a number of teachers have been appointed under SSA and RMSA, there is still acute shortage of teachers in the schools of hill areas thereby resulting in the downfall of academic condition in hill areas, the memorandum said.
The representation further alleged that it is evident that there is negligence on the part of the Government regarding the submission of the 772 genuinely verified list of the aforesaid contract teachers by the Directorate of Education (S) to the higher authority after the due process of physical re-verification along with relevant documents in November 2011 for their service extension.
In the light of these facts, the memorandum requested the Chief Minister to conduct a special DPC to regularize the contract teachers as a partial fulfilment of the MoU inked between the State Govt and ATSUM.
