Imphal, October 30 2015 :
Two young legislators from the Congress party were called for a meeting by Rahul Gandhi, Vice-President, AICC at his residence at 12, Tughlak Lane in New Delhi on October 28 .
Rajkumar Imo Singh, MLA Sagolband AC and M Prithiviraj, MLA Moirang AC were personally invited for a closed door discussion with the Congress vice president along with representatives from other States like Jharkhand and West Bengal.
Though the topic of discussion varied from various National issues to State issues, the two young legislators spoke about various issues related to the State of Manipur and steps required to be taken up to strengthen the Congress Party in the run up to the next Assembly Election in 2017 .
During the meeting which lasted almost an hour, RK Imo spoke on the development in recent months regarding the framework agreement signed between NSCN-IM and GoI.
He said that the Central leadership should be taking keen interest to put up this issue at the National level although Rahul Gandhi himself intervened in the Parliament.
It is an issue which is so delicate that any agreement which could hurt the interest of Manipur would not be welcome in any manner.
He requested Rahul Gandhi to push the Central Government for declaration of the said framework agreement to the general public of Manipur.
Regarding the ILP issue, RK Imo stated that it is an issue which is very important to the people of Manipur where the State leadership along with the Central leadership of the Congress party should pursue the matter with the NDA Government for the required assent as the State Assembly has already passed three Bills sometime back.
The Churachandpur issue was also discussed in depth where many lives were lost.
The meeting discussed the role of youth in the party for the forthcoming Assembly election and the need for better communication between the block units of Congress and the PCC for better understanding as this is the nodal point which is the foundation for the Congress Party.
M Prithiviraj, Parliamentary Secretary for YAS and Tourism, talked at length the importance of the NSCN-IM agreement which could have adverse effect in the State of Manipur.
He reminded the Central leadership that it was during the rule of NDA when the Bangkok Declaration was issued and now it is also the NDA Government which has proposed this framework.
He also said that there should be more transparency and communication between the people and the Government for better governance.
He further said that the Churachandpur issue has been taken very seriously by the State Government and has time and again proposed for a dialogue with the parties concerned.
There is no need of a tripartite talk with the Central Government as it is a State issue which the State Government has been trying to solve in an effective manner.
He also stressed that the ILP Bills do not harm the interest of the people from the Hills.
He underscored the role of the youth in the party's set up.
The meeting was also attended by Digvijaya Singh, AICC General Secretary.
