CCpur, October 30 2015 :
The three-day long Chavang Kut festival scheduled to be observed at Peace ground here began today in a solemn note as delegates from several cognate tribes, who the organisers said have been separated over centuries across different countries, paid their tributes to the nine 'tribal martyrs' here at the district hospital mortuary.
A popular Kuki artiste Jeff Akai presented a special 'ode to the martyrs' that was prepared by KNO President PS Haokip.
Delegates of several tribes who were here for the Chavang Kut event paid floral tributes to the martyrs while a retired Lutheran Bishop Rev Ginkhanmung delivered a message.

Subsequent to paying tributes the nine 'martyrs' the delegates along with the event organisers headed for Peace ground where the main event is set to carry on for the next two days.
A commemoration monument of the event that seeks to celebrate brotherhood of over forty cognate tribes was unveiled by PS Haokip amidst the presence of thousands of people who he subsequently addressed.
He said the Chavang Kut 2015 is a landmark and historic event that celebrates the coming together of forty three brethren who have since long been separated over centuries across different lands and countries.
It was the unseen hand of God that has brought these children of Manasseh together, he added.
Today's event witnessed performances from Phom People's Council, Dimapur; Manasseh Cultural Troupe; Mizo Cultural Troupe; the Karbi and Zou troupes.
It was also addressed by S Manlip Konyak, President Konyak Union, Nagaland among others.
