Police thrashes truck driver, handyman

Four personnel of Manipur Police who were allegedly in inebriated state thrashed one truck driver and handyman on Thursday at around 8.30 pm at Mantripukhri area under Heingang Police Station after they refused to pay one thousand rupees.
Sources said the truck came from Guwahati and was waiting to enter in Imphal city when four personnel who were wearing MP badges came in two wheelers and asked the driver and handyman to pay one thousand rupees which the two refused.
The driver and handyman were badly thrashed and the police personnel made them stand in front of the truck and clicked their pictures.
The victim driver has been identified as Aheibam Chingkheinganba alias Achouba (30), son of A Shyamkishore of Takyel Khongban Maning Leikai under Lamphel Police Station.
The handyman was identified as Naorem Amitkumar (23), son of N Ibohal of Bishnupur Ward No 5 under Bishnupur Police Station.
During an interaction with media persons on Friday, the victims condemned the incident and demanded action against the personnel involved in the incident.
All Manipur Road Transport Driver and Motor Workers Union General Secretary M Anil also strongly condemned the incident and demanded disciplinary action against the personnel involved.
The transporters have warned that they will launch cease work strikes if the authorities fail to take action at earliest.
