Imphal, January 28 2016: Amidst the sea of educated unemployed youth who are in a mad race for white collar jobs, there are some self made entrepreneurs who prove their mettle against odds.

Maibam Premjit, from Bamon Leikai Mange Makhong is one enterprising youth who not only shows the way but leads in the front.

Maibam Premjit (38) s/o M Tomcha started his Mai Industry, which manufactures incense sticks (dhoop) in 2014 .

Premjit went to Ahmedabad, Gujarat to learn the art of making incense sticks.

He came back with incense making machine to start his own business here.

Located at Khongman Mangjil Keli Leikai, Mai Industry started proper functioning on June 18 last year.

Within few months, the product of the industry took the market by storm and 'Mai Agarbatti' is fast replacing imported incense sticks in the local markets.

Under its brand, 'Mai Agarbatti,' the industry has produced incense sticks in four different fragrances with indigenous touch.

It manufactures the Leihao, Chini Champra, Mengkruk and Khoiju Leikham fragrances.

Today, the industry has employed nine persons.

It produces 30-35 dozens of incense sticks in a day.

The brand's popularity is soaring.

"We choose only the finest and purest natural products available in the State as the raw materials," Maibam Premjit said in a chat with this reporter.

"We are committed to working with partners who are environmentally friendly," he said.

One thing that comes in the way of Premjit is irregular power supply.

"Besides the erratic power supply, frequent bandh, strike and blockade has become an impediment to our growth," he said.

He felt that the Govt should encourage the entrepreneurs of the State by providing the basic infrastructures.

Premjit completed MSW from Jiwaji University, Gwailor in 2004 after graduating from Loyala College, Chennai.

When the public leaders start working sincerely and there is work culture among the people especially the educated youth, unemployment problem might be solved, he opined.

He said that the industry is committed to provide quality service to the public as well as give employment to many youth.
