Imphal, January 28 2016:
A 14-year-old boy drowned in Imphal river at Shamurou Awang Leikai in Imphal West district.
The boy, identified as Takhellambam Somorjit (14) s/o T Pandit of Kwatha Khunjao was a student of Little Master Higher Secondary School, Shamurou.
According to Somorjit's aunt, Premi, the boy stayed in the hostel of the school.
Yesterday at around 1 pm, Somorjit's friends came to her pan shop at Shamurou bazar and informed her that the boy had drowned in Imphal river.
Premi said that when she reached the spot, some persons were seen searching for the boy in the river.
She said that they stopped searching in the late evening as it was getting dark.
Today morning, as soon as the search resumed, Somorjit's body was fished out from the same location where he disappeared in water, Premi said.
Later, Wangoi police picked up the body and deposited it at RIMS morgue for post mortem examination.
Somorjit's mother Mala said that her son has been studying in Little Master Higher Secondary School, Shamurou since the past four years.
The bereaved mother alleged that although her son stayed in the hostel of the school, the hostel authority neither took up any step to trace him nor informed them about the incident.
Lamenting that she had lost her son due to the negligence of the hostel authority, Mala said that her family would not claim the body until the police and Government take action against them.
She said that her son went out from the hostel with around five of his friends at around 10 am yesterday.
On the other hand, Wangoi police have also allegedly refused to accept her written complaint submitted in connection with the incident, Mala said.
She said that police allegedly told her that they could not accept the complaint until post mortem report comes.
In this regard, Mala urged the Government to intervene and direct Wangoi police to investigate the incident.
