Tobacco products ban on Govt's plan

Imphal, January 28 2016:
Taking serious note of the rising cases of cancer caused by consumption of tobacco products, the State Government has been considering to ban tobacco products in the State.
An official meeting presided by Chief Secretary O Nabakishore today discussed about banning sale and consumption of tobacco products in the entire State, informed a source.
Manipur is ranked second only to Mizoram among the North Eastern States in terms of cancer prevalence.
Whereas 60 per cent of the total population of Mizoram are said to use tobacco products, Manipur is following closely behind with 58 per cent of its total population consuming different tobacco products.
Out of some lung cancer patients admitted in different hospitals in the recent months, it has been confirmed that lung cancer in ten patients were caused by consumption of tobacco products.
A number of officials attended the meeting.
