Thoubal, February 20 2015 :
A bandh called by the All Tribal Blind Association, Chandel district paralysed movement of vehicles traffic along Imphal-Moreh road and Pallel-Chandel road today.
The bandh which started from 8 am and went on till 5 pm was called to protest the alleged indifferent attitude of the State Government to the welfare of the visually impaired and its alleged failure to provide grant-in-aid to the Mission Blind School located at Heikakpokpi village, Chandel district.
The bandh supporters including differently abled people blocked the Pallel-Chandel district headquarters road at Liwachangning village and Imphal- Moreh road at Thamlapokpi village by putting up barricades along the road and prohibiting vehicles from moving further.

However, emergency services and vehicles on exam duty were exempted.
No report of any untoward incident was received during the bandh.
Secretary of the Association, K Pareng Kom who is also the Principal of Mission Blind School, Heikakpokpi said that the school was privately run by the Association and managed it with fund received through donation from individuals, Assam Rifles and other generous civil bodies.
Kom further maintained that since the inception of the school, no assistance or grant has been provided by the State Government.
No grant has also been received from any NGOs.
As such, the Association is compelled to impose the bandh as the Government has neglected the needs of the differently abled people after repeated appeals.
If the State Government has failed to fulfill its assurance at the earliest, the association will take up stern agitation including fast unto death, Kom warned.
