ATSUM threatens to resume stir

All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) led by president Muan Tombing has strongly voiced against the service extention policy of Manipur government and demanded to do away such policies on or before March 14 of the year.
Muan Tombing while interacting with the media persons today at Manipur Press Club here said that the service extention policy not only affects the line of promotion for the employees concerned but also causes hurdle in the service recruitment process.
A memorandum regarding the immediate intervention of the issue has already been submitted to the chief minister, O.Ibobi on February 22, 2014, he added.
The students' union also urged the state government to discuss about the setting up of a separate Scheduled Tribe Commission in Manipur in the ongoing state assembly session.
The matter was already given assurances by the chief minister on November 24 last year, he said.
Tombing reiterated that if the state government fails to take up necessary steps to end the policy of extension and also setting up of a separate Scheduled Tribe Commission before the dateline given, then, the union will launch its third phase of agitation under the code name ROTO (Reckoning of the Other) which will be followed by a series of agitation including shutting down of national projects in Manipur and starting of indefinite blockades in the national highways.
