Imphal, May 11 2021:
The Socialist Students' Union of Manipur has urged the State Government to ascertain the actual size of Kangla Laiphamlen and make it public.
Contentions surrounding Koubru and Thangjing Ching are not a positive development, said SSUM in a statement while terming that the renaming of Mount Koubru as Mount Simtongbung was very unfortunate.
Taking note of the issues, SSUM also asked the State Government to find out the actual area of land covered by Kangla Laiphamlen and retrieve in case any portion of it has been conceded.
The Government must be very sincere about protecting and preserving these places of historical, religious and culture significance, it said.
If the State Government could not even protect Kangla Laiphamlen, how it is supposed to protect Mount Koubru and Thangjing, it asked.
It is evident that portions of Kangla Laiphamlen have been encroached and even settlements continued in parts which have been compensated earlier, said SSUM which also demanded the State Government to take up all measures to fully protect the sacred Kangla Laiphamlen and restore its glories within this year.
