Many demand capital punishment for Modhutilla incident

Many demand for capital punishment to all those involved in outraging the modesty of a 30 year old Manipuri widow at Modhutilla village near NIT Silchar in Cachar district on May 9 .
The incident happened when she was returning home after her duty at a private nursing home and taking advantage of the wee hours, 3 persons identified as Kanhai Lal Goala, Mahesh Goala and Sonnoth Kumar Goala outraged her modesty.
The three persons are in Police custody now.
Regarding the incident, Dr Maimom Shantikumar Singh, general secretary of Cachar District Trinamool Congress Party said that an FIR has not been filed till date which indicates that there is a high probability that the Police are trying to destroy the evidences and cover up the incident.
Therefore he called for immediate intervention by the authorities concerned into the matter and award befitting punishment to the culprits.
Womenfolk of Modhutilla village strongly condemned the incident and said that the culprits should not be released at any cost and to award capital punishments to all the three.
Voicing the same demands, All Assam Manipuri Students Union (AAMSU) submitted a memorandum to DC and SP of Cachar, said Kabrabam Bikramjit, general secretary of AAMSU while speaking to media persons today.
He further stated that if justice is not delivered at the earliest, AAMSU along with the support of public will take up stringent form of agitations.
