Chandel, April 12 2015 :
Thadou Students' Association (TSA) has submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Robert Kshetrimayum at Hengshi village in Chandel district yesterday, reports our correspondent.
The students' body in the memorandum stated that on the inauguration day of Khengjoy sub-division in 2011, Chief Minister O Ibobi assured that Khengjoy Junior High School will be upgraded to Khengjoy High School.
Besides the Chief Minister had also assured that the present PHSC will be upgraded to a Primary Health Centre (PHC) and to make Khengjoy police station fully functional.
In the memorandum, the students' body also appealed to the State Government to set up a separate educational block for Khengjoy sub-division and make every department accessible to all the villagers in the sub-division.
In the meanwhile, TSA also strongly condemned the acts of the 24 Assam Rifles personnel who were on duty to check vehicles along National Highway 102 at Tengnoupal-Sita junction.
Expressing their displeasure, TSA general headquarters secretary James Haokip said that in contrast to the recent assurance given by the DIG 26 Sector Assam Rifles to the Joint Action Committee against the atrocities of Assam Rifles and Central Security forces in Chandel district at Tengnoupal village, the 24 Assam Rifles personnel unnecessarily detained a team of the students' body and medical staff who were returning from Hengshi village after conducting a free medical camp yesterday apart from using abusive words.
He further said that the DIG had assured the people of the area and the JAC members that the Assam Rifles will not harass the commuters and depute more number of responsible jawans for checking vehicles.
However, the action of the 24 Assam Rifles personnel who were on duty along the National Highway 102 was in contrast to the assurance of the DIG and the act of the jawans can be termed as a direct insult to the people and officers, said James Haokip.
Maintaining that the students' body will not tolerate such irresponsible behaviour of the Assam Rifles personnel, James Haokip said that it will not remain mute spectator.
TSA also appealed to the higher authority concerned of Assam Rifles to discipline the jawans and depute only responsible jawans for checking vehicles along the National Highway.
